WOD

I'm a little intimidated by all the Cross-fit talk, but it seems like it's just groups of people working really hard at circuits.
And as I like circuits, I think I'd like CF.

So... anyone tried it? Any tips on how to start?
There's an information session in my city every Saturday, but I'm always busy at the time they run them. I've been looking for some simple, no-equipment-needed WODs for days like today: cold, cloudy, coffee days.

So today: 10 air squats, 10 pushups, 10 situps, 10 dips, 10 rounds.

Spring

The weather's been awesome the past few weeks. Temperatures in the teens and 20's (Celsius) and sunshine all around.
I spend last weekend in Toronto, having mixed fun and paperwork. I had to renew my passport and it took a couple of days. I also went on an adventure with my friend, and we met a lot of cool new people :)

School is gearing onwards to exam season again. I've always found this semester to be more difficult than the September one because it ends in perfect weather. There's always a few days at the end that are gorgeous and I look around and notice that half the class has decided to enjoy the sunshine rather than sit in class and review final papers. Priorities, I guess!

I've been a bit slack lately about workouts. I've had some things going on, so I've only been going to 1x yoga class a week. I've squeezed in some runs - a couple were outside in the pretty weather, others were inside the warm gym. I've run a couple of miles under 9:00min/mile pace and am extremely excited to say that my knee is having no issues.
I find that there are 3 components of importance in a run. Heart, Muscles and Mind. On my runs lately, my mind's the one that's quit and I cut my quicker paced race short. I think there's still a mental block there telling me I can't run more than 1 mile at a fast pace. I'm working on it, and increasing that speed. I'm also working on finding tricks to keep me entertained on the treadmill, as sometimes I can't change the channel on the TVs.

I've also found a U-lock for my bike! I've pumped the tyres, dusted the seat and set it in motion for meetings and such. I'm going to figure out a way to keep my work pants from getting stuck in the chain, and how to fix the chain falling off 3x every ride, and then I'll bike to placement regularly. I'm excited, as it'll cut down on my travel time. Right now I walk to + from placement, and it takes me about 25 minutes each way.

That's about all that's happening right now. I'm trying to stay motivated for exams, limit mindless internet browsing and increase workouts and plan smartly for the future! :D

Have a great weekend!

College Diet

You know what's stupid? Being cheap and car-less on a Sunday (when no buses run) and realising that you haven't bought groceries in 2 weeks.
My boyfriend usually visits every weekend and we all pile into his car on Sunday mornings to co-ordinate our household grocery trips. Last weekend I had come back from a week away, so I didn't buy anything. The weekend before that I didn't buy anything because I was going away. And the reason this weekend is just because
  1. I don't have a car
  2. It's cold outside
  3. I'm lazy, and now it's also dark outside
I still have food... frozen veggies in the fridge, we have huge bags of  rice and pasta that never seem to end, and I have those quick packs of rice with the flavours that you just need to boil.
But I find that every time this happens I'm always left with the hard to make foods - the packet rice takes at least 25 minutes to make, and frozen veggies need to be cooked :(
I miss the days of quick hummus on toast, bananas or frozen waffles :D Those early days after a grocery trip where you have so many goodies to pick from....

Aren't you glad your college days are behind you?!

Stomach Flu

I wrote up a whole long story about how I threw up on Wednesday morning, felt terrible, went to work, went to the clinic and had the nurse tell me I had the flu. I also wrote up about how awful I felt but I couldn't skip the stuff I had to do that day. I had also written about the stupid diet the nurse told me to stay on for three days (clear liquid only, no coffee, no dairy, no FOOD) and the gravol and advil she gave me. I skipped it though, because you probably don't care. Lucky you!

Needless to say, I haven't been going to the gym. Wait.. I went once, for yoga. But all I've done has been walking to/from school and placement, because that's all my head can handle right now. I feel great - I only have a headache now, so I've beat the flu. I'm still hydrating and being super mindful about consuming lots of fruits and veggies. I'm a bit busy this weekend with school, so I'll stay away from the gym until Monday.

There's a hooping fitness class that I really want to be in. It works perfectly with my schedule, and I know I'm going to like it because I loved a demonstration class I went to last weekend. I'm a little busy with group projects this week, but I will re-assess for next week. Does anybody hoop?

Here's a picture of the Detroit side of the river on one of my runs since my last post:
